Word Count
Stories should be 1,000-2,000 words long. Shorter or longer stories will not be automatically disqualified. However, priority will be given to stories which meet this guideline.

The measure “creativity” can be achieved by illustrating several outcomes for a world with immigration justice. You want the reader to think both “aha” and “oh!” Creative writing should surprize us.

The measure “practicality” can be achieved by demonstrating an understanding of social science and public policy. For the purpose of this contest, a story will be considered practical if it is an extension of our current reality.

Writing Strength
The measure “writing strength” can be achieved by successful use of literary devices. Winning stories tend to have a balance of cheer and severity, and must elicit emotional response. Think of grammar as a tool to help the reader understand you, not a measuring stick that will be held against you.
